Week 1

Design Fundamentals - a brief look at traditional design principles and how they apply
to the web, color and a look at browser compatibility.

Assignment 1:

Find a site and analyze it's use of design fundamentals:

I found one site at http://www.factordesign.com/fd/index.html and liked it, as it looked so welldone and clear to me. I also looked at the site with 1024 x 768 as also with 800 x 600 resolution and both looked quite well. The only difference was a scrolling bar in 800 x 600...but it looked as good as in higher resolution.

Here is a capture screen so you see what I am talking about.

resolution 1024 x 768I think there is enough white space around so the important details are showing up.

The different green colors are warm and are going together in a wonderful harmonic way and I think we can call it a monochromatic color scheme. Otherhand there is a big contrast with the white color for the titel (logo). Therefore we can also see emphasis as also it is a big difference in the size, so the name of the business is eyecatching.

The title just leads to the text field below. This white color is repeated in the field with the text. The words on the right side are in the the same dark green color like the thick line ahead. The font is good to read as it is sans-serif. The weight also is given by different font sizes. The value is to see in the different Green.

We also can find an eye leading direction. As I told the name leads to the white text field through the same color as also it ends just in the right place so the eyes go down. Also the face on the left side, as also the stuff on the right side whatever it is, leads to the white text box. Similar like the letter V. Otherhand the thing on the right side has a line in it which also seems to lead to the dark green text on the right side. Die text is aligned left and has enough space around to look clear and welldone. Also the text is spaced in paragraphs so it is better readable.

By surfing around I saw that the pages have consistency and they are good to navigate. Inside a warm yellow is going hand in hand with the different greens.

Well I saw many other good pages and can see when it is good designed, but I often don't understand how they did it lol...
